A massive well done to the Yr 9/10 Boys Football Team for beating Discovery Academy 2.3 in the U15 City Cup second round earlier this evening.
The away side (St Peter’s) started the brighter with some slick passing and good attacking play which eventually paid off. St. Peter’s forward Elias Rahal picked up the ball in the oppositions box and was bundled over for an obvious penalty. Captain Josh Astley stepped up and cooly sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 1.0 after 7 minutes.
The boys then piled on the pressure and created chance after chance but the Discovery keeper managed to keep the scoreline the same with some excellent stops to deny Muhammed Muntelebi, Elias Rahal and skipper Josh Astley.
This relentless pressure came to fruition after 12 minutes as Kyle Dale leapt like a salmon to nod in from a corner to make it 2.0 to the away side.
St. Peter’s backline were then busy with wave after wave of attacks coming at them however, they stood strong with some great defending by Gilchris Kakanou, Kyle Dale, Hamza Shahab and Kai Paxton who managed to keep the St Peter’s GK (Declan Brookes) relatively quiet.
The score stayed the same right up until the stroke of half time where a lapse in concentration saw the home side slot home the ball from inside the 6 yard box to make it 1.2 at the break.
The second half started as the first had finished with the home side creating more and more chances and 5 minutes in they drew level with a well worked goal.
This seemed to kick start the St Peter’s lads again with some excellent passages of play that saw the Discovery defence under pressure once again.
Muhammed Muntelebi worked tirelessly on the wing and was soon to be the difference between the 2 teams. A great ball from Josh Astley saw Mo running at the defence where he created enough space to score a wonder goal from 20 yards and make it 3.2 to the visitors.
The lads then showed great Endurance to see the game out to full time.
The Team:
Declan Brookes, Kai Paxton, Gilchris Kakanou, Kyle Dale, Hamza Shahab, Timi Akinpelu, Josh Astley (c), Muhammed Muntelebi, Harrison Minshall, Owen Woolley, Elias Rahal, Emre Alici, Thomas Taylor
Very close for MOM but Kyle Dale takes the plaudits with a goal and some outstanding defending. Well done everyone!!!
