English Language and English Literature

All students study English Language and English Literature. Lessons are designed to inspire and motivate students whilst providing appropriate academic challenge.

Students study a range of literature and non-fiction texts, including Shakespeare, poetry and modern plays. Alongside this, there are opportunities for exposure to a wide and rich range of extended writing practice in both creative and more professional styles of writing.

English is essential to numerous career areas such as teaching, journalism, the media in general and even the legal profession. It is also an essential lifelong skill to be able to communicate with confidence and make appropriate inferences from the texts we read.
