Message from the Principal

Posted on: 11th Oct 2019

In direct response to parent and student voice, not long after I started at St. Peter’s, I vowed to reduce the amount of external supply teachers teaching lessons. Everyone knows that the quality and amount of work students produce when a supply teacher is in the classroom is compromised.

In the last academic year we did reduce the number of lessons taught by supply teachers significantly, but felt that this is still not enough. That is why this academic year we have vowed to have no external supply teachers teaching any lessons at St. Peter’s anytime. This is an ambitious target, but I am delighted to confirm that we are six weeks in and no external supply teacher has taught a lesson in the Academy this academic year.

If you are wondering how we are managing to do this, there are four main reasons

  • Very committed staff and excellent staff attendance
  • Staff willing to support each other and go above and beyond the call of duty
  • The Employment of a Cover Supervisor, who is well known and respected by students
  • Ensuring that the type and number of staff who go on educational visits does not have a significant impact on cover requirements.

I would be interested to hear if there are any other schools who make this commitment to their students and parents? I am not guaranteeing we can maintain this, but we are doing everything we can to ensure students are taught by our staff every day

Have a good weekend
