Posted on: 2nd Mar 2020The Year 9/10 Football Team secured their place in the U15 City Cup Final with a convincing 2.0 win against Co-operative Academy on Monday 2nd March 2020.
The home side were dominant from the start with some quick passing down the flanks that had Co-op at sixes and sevens at the back. Eventually, all the pressure paid off when Hamza Shahab picked up the ball just outside the oppositions box and lashed a fierce shot which the keeper couldn't tip over the bar and the ball fell behind him to make it 1.0. St Peter's kept on the pressure with wave after wave of attacking play but the Co-op defence stood firm. The scoreline stayed this way until Muhamed Muntelebi Amadu latched onto a through ball on the left hand side of the box and smashed the ball into the back of the net to make it 2.0.
The second half started as the first had finished with the home side seeing most of the possession and the ball rarely straying from the Co-op half. Shots from Umar Waseem, Jamal Naveed and Owen Wooley kept the Co-op keeper busy but the scoreline stayed the same.
Solid performances from the St Peter's back four, kept the home sides high line up the pitch with Kyle Dale, Gilchris Tanqui Kakanou, Emre Alici and Kai Paxton making sure that Declan Brookes had very little to do in goal.
Man of the match was close as always with the whole team working tirelessly throughout. Special mentions to Josh Astley, Kyle Dale (c), Owen Wooley, Hamza Shahab and Gilchris Tanqui Kakanou but the plaudits go to Kai Paxton who didn't put a foot wrong all game and was instrumental in everything on the left wing, from back to front. Well done!
St Peter's will face either St Thomas Moore Catholic College or Trentham Academy in the final.
