A huge well done to the U16 Boys football team who beat The Cooperative Academy 4.0 in a hard fought battle and tough conditions earlier today.
The home side won the toss and decided to play with the wind in their backs for the first half and it soon proved to be an advantage with shot after shot peppering the Co-Op goal, however, keeping control of the ball proved more difficult as the game went on due to the strong winds and sheets of rain coming down on the 2 teams.
The St Peter's pressure however eventually paid of when after 20 mins a mistake by the up to now impressive Co-Op keeper saw him kicking a free kick from out wide, straight into the path of Blaine Batkin who picked up the ball and smashed from 40 yards in to an empty net to make it 1.0.
St Peter's were looking even more comfortable with the ball from this point and on 25 minutes, Daoud Iqbal managed to create enough space at the edge of the box to unleash a fierce shot into the top corner to make it 2.0 to the home side.
The second half saw the awful weather get even worse (if that was possible) which made the game scrappy for the most part. Both teams battled hard to keep possession with the wind playing a huge part and eventually, it was the home side that came out on top. An excellent passing move on the left saw Armaan Khan pick up the ball in the middle of the box, take on one defender and slot the ball home to make it 3.0.
Shortly after this, Blaine Batkin capped off an excellent performance by getting his second and St Peter's fourth.
Man of the match was close with some outstanding performances from Brandon Teague, Blaine Batkin and Kyle Dale to name a few but the plaudits go to Blaine Batkin who worked his socks off and managed to get himself a brace. Well done Blaine!
